Lars Berghagen was one of Sweden's great entertainers, a singer, songwriter and composer whose warm, melodic schlager and chanson-tinged pop made him a familiar voice across generations. His songs favour catchy, sing-along melodies and plain-spoken sentiment, the kind of music made for communal singing rather than quiet listening.
Born in Enskede, Stockholm, in 1945, Berghagen built a long career in Swedish popular music as both performer and writer, also working as an actor. He became especially beloved as host of the televised sing-along show Allsång på Skansen from 1994 to 2003, cementing his place as one of Sweden's most cherished artists before his death in 2023.
